My First Yoga & Live Gong Class

Last Thursday,

I took my first yoga / live gong mediation class. I have been doing a lot of soul searching and felt I was still missing something or that my body was missing something. My friend Nina, (hey Nina!!!) has been wanting to take a yoga class for a while, so she found this cool meditation and yoga center. Sadly, Nina had work the day I impulsively booked a class, so we didn’t experience this together.

When I arrived, I was greeted by a lovely employee who practices yoga herself. She engaged in conversation with everyone who came to check in and truly made everyone comfortable.

As soon as you walked in, it’s like a new world. The front is set up like a store where you can purchase a variety of things such as crystals, books, clothing, and things of that sort.

There is a hallways that leads to private rooms for individual one on one therapy or classes and to the right of the hallway is a large room where the group yoga classes are held.

Here is a screenshot of the class I took explaining what it is and the benefits it has:

So besides being greatly relaxing, it has health benefits as well.

We started off with stretches/ yoga poses and I must say, those who practice yoga on a regular basis make it LOOK easy, but boy was my body stiff after leaving! I can tell the poses will help strengthen my body once I break them in.

In addition, our teacher taught us how to breathe properly while doing these poses, which I truly appreciate. Making a small change like how you breathe while doing a pose can have a huge impact.

The teacher played music and spoke very softly guiding us through each pose. When it was finally time for the live gong, she turned off the lights completely. It was the most relaxed I have ever felt if I’m being honest. The gong gives off a vibration that you can feel throughout your whole body. As she hit the gong, her soft voice puts you into a deeper relaxation. There were a few people who fell asleep and started snoring, which was fine because she did say it was nap time.

I must mention throughout our poses she would tell us to visualize things we wanted or needed. She would also tell us to ask the higher power for these things as well.

Overall, I loved this class and I would recommend taking it to anyone! I walked away feeling more motivated, inspired, and happy. I will definitely try and take at least one class a week.

Being open to new things is something I wanted to do this year, so I’m happy I am sticking with it. Yoga/meditation is something I’ve never truly cared all that much for, but now, by being open to trying it, I LOVE IT.

If you’re thinking of taking a yoga or meditation class, DO IT!!! It was one of the best experiences I’ve had so far. I’m sure you will take away something from it too.
